Toucans and Mockingbirds
There was an old man sitting next to me enjoying any species around, he said Alex I think this taking me so high! These Toucans and Mockingbirds are delivering all the energy to this morning, those Jays and Orioles are part a dream I had before this trip, the fascinating hummingbirds are putting my mind in their creator! He kept enjoying his morning while I was being his guide through all these beauties., I thought myself I am the luckiest person that breath in these tropics! I do enjoy my visitors!

A large, male Tayra (Eira barbara) pauses to do something cheeky along our loop trail. For those of you who aren’t familiar, these guys are the neo-tropical equivalent of a fisher, or small wolverine (they’re 15 pound weasels basically). Tayras are the only species in their genus, and are omnivorous, terrestrial, arboreal, and pound for pound one of the most bad-to-the-bone mammals in the rain forest. As they’re always on the move, it’s rare to get one sitting still, much less smack in front of a camera trap, so I’m thrilled! Other, blurrier images from this same camera showed smaller, presumably female or juvenile Tayras, so I’m looking forward to some better images once I get this camera’s direction tweaked just right….
